Kapitan Moy is an architectural landmark of Marikina City. It is the home of the wealthy Don Jose Guevara and Don Laureano “Kapitan Moy” Guevara, during the Spanish Colonial Era. It was said that the first pair of shoes were created here in 1887. The structure evolved and turned into a school building from 1907 to 1995. During the early years of the American occupation, it housed the American Tribunal. And in 1942-1945 it was occupied by the Japanese Imperial Army as their headquarters.

During the seat of former Mayor Bayani Fernando, an ordinance was passed and renamed the place "Sentrong Pangkultura ng Marikina”.

This bahay-na-bato structure is located just across Our Lady of the Abandoned Chruch. When John and I went to church one Sunday, we walked across the church after the mass and made a semi-ocular visit of the venue. Usually, I dont take a second look of it whenever I'm at the area maybe because I'm so used to seeing it for the last 25++ years. But that night, it was exceptionally stunning. It stood out amongst it's background since it was all lit up because there was an event that night. So John and I, seriously took mental notes that this will be our reception venue. And me, my imagination went running... too far I guess. I imagined having fireworks, then brushed off the idea (we have a budget to stick to) "ok fine, no fireworks..." FIREWORKS so then my imagination didn't stop there, i just imagined having floating lanterns being set from the patio and let them float through the black star-covered night sky. Better! :) But John brushed off the idea. FLOATING LANTERNS. "Hun, this is a residential area. What if the lanterns get tangled with the Meralco lines and the trees, it might cause a fire." Hey, I didn't consider that. Hehe. He was right. But I won't stop there. I will do my research!!!

So with that said, Kapitan Moy ranks Number 1 on our Venue Options. It's so convenient for everyone too, we'll just cross the street! Imagine how much savings we'll make. No need for bridal cars! LOL But we'll see... Maybe it will be a freebie on our catering booking? Then we'll gladly take it!

Originally, it is not even on our list to have our Reception at this venue. We just saw their set-up at the recent wedding fair held at SMX last weekend. Their black and white (more of black and gray) setup caught my attention since that was our theme. So we asked to see more pictures of their venue/clubhouse and I was surprised that they have renovated and expanded their original function place. I am very familiar with them because I had my debut on 200+ at their venue. The place then was nice, but it was quite small for a wedding reception so we didn't even consider it at first. But now, as we browsed their pictures, we might do an ocular visit soon. And tomorrow, we will do our first ever food tasting at their venue so I guess it will serve as an ocular visit too.

OTHER VENUES

VELADA ESTATES

This was initially my personal choice when we were not even really doing the whole planning process. I just saw this over the net and I automatically loved the ambiance. But since now we are considering the more accessible venues, this is now just part of the "others". boohooo! :( but maybe, just maybe, we can still re-consider. :)

The Mango Farm

I just saw their booth at a wedding fair in Megamall last Oct 2010. And we have a family friend who suggested this venue since it is located inside their village and she said it's a beautiful place. So we'll see... But again, this is quite far from our Church since it is in Antipolo already. Anyway, I'll just share the pics as well.

Jardin de Miramar

I just wanted to consider this venue just because of its gaining popularity among pre-nup locations search keyword result. I already made an inquiry through email and I must say that their package is quite reasonable. But what's keeping me from considering it is again, the location since it's waaay further up in Antipolo. But for a pre-nup photoshoot, most probably! :)
